So what happens after you finish watching Tiger King, perfect the trendy art of whipped coffee, finally reorganize every closet & realize that 2,000-piece puzzle wasn’t really as much fun as you thought it’d be? Find something new & exciting to binge, that’s what!
Given our current circumstances, entertainment is pretty much everything. So why not take a break from panicking over whether that occasional tickle in your throat is obviously a sign you’re on your deathbed & check out this list of obsession-worthy things worth adding to your quarantine queue:
THE BITCH BIBLE / MY CORONA KITCHEN
There’s a special place in the world right now for comedy & if there’s anyone we can rely on for it, it’s hands down Jackie Schimmel. Creator, writer & self-proclaimed “head bitch” of the one & only Bitch Bible podcast, she provides a weekly dose of the unfiltered, no holds barred (in a world where everyone describes themselves as unfiltered & no holds barred but she actually does it) social/Bravo TV commentary you never knew you needed – until now.
And for all the other days outside of Tuesday when her new episodes drop, you can also get your fix through her new FINSTAGRAM account @MyCoronaKitchen. “MiNimaL iNgrEdieNts, MaXimuM HeaRt”….you get the picture.
ABSOLUTELY NOT WITH HEATHER MCMAHAN
A fellow gem of the Dear Media podcast network is comedian, actress & all-around riot Heather McMahan with her podcast, Absolutely Not. “Doing the most & the least at the same damn time,” she brings hilarious perspective to all of life’s craziest moments, with especial help from listeners like you! Thanks to the “Absolutely NOT-Line”. It’s bitching, it’s laughing, it’s love—just go listen.
Seriously, right now.
MARK & JACK HOPPUS’ TWITCH STREAM
I honestly knew nothing about Twitch until one fateful day this past week when our resident pop-punk dad/blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus launched his maiden voyage into the stream…of streaming.
If you’re a fan of Animal Crossing, if you’re a fan of blink, if you’re a fan of feeling like you’re hanging out with your favorite musicians, bored at each other’s houses for the 12th night of summer break in a row, it’s totally worth tuning into one of Mark & his son Jack’s regular Twitch fests of video game playing. Of course, with the occasional jam sesh, too.
DARK SIDE OF THE RING
Regardless of whether you’re obsessed with pro-wrestling, Vice’s Dark Side of the Ring is one docu-series 1000% worth watching. Featuring all kinds of crazy stories surrounding some of the sport’s most interesting characters & events, it has true crime, love affairs, double crossing & so much more.
Just be careful not to start it too late into the night, or else the next thing you know – it’s 6AM. Oops.
EPICLY LATER’D
And speaking of Vice, there’s also Epicly Later’d. Chronicling a few of the biggest names in skate history, this docu-series truly captures the era, notoriety & legacy behind the counter-culture. Once again including a huge variety of personal histories, struggles & career ups/downs of legends like Bam Margera & Spike Jonze, it’s another one that can easily suck you into a trance void of time if you’re not careful.
DAMIEN ECHOLS’ NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL
I know a lot of people are going stir-crazy with all of this time stuck at home; however, it doesn’t reeeeally come close to true isolation à la spending 18 years on death row (*cough* for a crime you never committed *cough cough*).
So if there’s anyone we can look to for some mega-interesting perspective about now, it’s Damien Echols of the West Memphis Three. In addition to his three (about to be four) books, he also just launched a new YouTube channel this past week that’s definitely worth checking out.
THE LAST PODCAST ON THE LEFT
And finally, a true modern classic: LPOTL.
As I’m sure many of you already know, it’s the fantastically bizarre brainchild of Ben Kissel, Marcus Parks & Henry Zebrowski that covers everything that’s anything within the horror-verse. From true crime & serial killers, to cults, cryptids, conspiracies & more, their over 400 episodes of heavily researched macabre-dy (macabre + comedy: did that joke translate? IDK) without a doubt deserves a spot in the podcast hall of fame.
What game-changing shows, podcasts, channels, etc have *you* discovered in these crazy times?
